Runway designation changed
04.07.09
The runway at London City Airport has a new designation to reflect the shift of magnetic north, which changes from any fixed point as the world slowly orbits.
Staff worked through Monday night to change the airport's signage and paint new markings on its runway, changing it from 28 and 10 - the abbreviated magnetic runway headings of 280° and 100° - to 27 and 09.
All official charts and reference material were also changed. It is expected to be at least 50 years before the runway designation needs to change again, the Newham Recorder reports.
