Airport protest today
04.09.10
A joint protest will be held at London City and Manchester airports today to call for an end to domestic flights. The ‘Train not Plane’ protest will see campaigners gather at the Docklands airport at 11:00 to voice their concern at airlines promoting internal flights within the UK.
The activists from Campaign Against Climate Change and Fight the Flights will then take their protest in to central London on an open top bus before traveling to Manchester by train and carrying out a similar protest at Manchester Airport and in the city.
Phil Thornhill from Campaign Against Climate Change said: ‘It's time we got serious about the threat from climate change before its too late. We can start to get to grips with the growth in aviation by eliminating the shorter journeys that can be made in other, less carbon-intensive, ways.’
