Passengers up by 31% in August

The number of passengers using London City Airport increased by 31% in August compared with a year earlier. Following July's record 26% rise in passengers, 241,976 travellers passed through the terminal last month.
A spokesman for the airport said that it expects passenger numbers to continue to increase over the next few years, a prediction reflected in its recent application for expansion to accommodate the extra passengers.
Richard Gooding, chief executive at London City, said: 'With an ever increasing number of leading financial institutions locating their headquarters on the east side of London, the airport, only 3 miles from Canary Wharf, is ideally located to serve the growing business community.'
