ScotAirways reports 'difficult year' as losses treble

ScotAirways, the small airline operating flights from Scotland to London City Airport, suffered almost trebled losses after 'a difficult trading year'. The airline's latest of accounts also say that it has abandoned its original plan of solely flying a regular service from Dundee and Edinburgh to London City, and has now turned itself into a charter operation focusing on Scotland, London and the Channel Islands.
The accounts show that pre-tax losses plunged to just over £2.1m in 2006, compared with a loss of £757,323 in 2005. Turnover dipped to £22.1m from £22.3m. In the accounts the directors say: 'Following a difficult year's trading, the group undertook an extensive business review in the early part of 2007. As a result of this, the directors took the decision to restructure the business as a lease and charter operation.'
ScotAirways still flies between Scotland and London but, as previously reported, the service is now a franchise of Air France Cityjet. During the coming months the aircraft used on the routes will be painted in the Cityjet livery and cabin interiors will gradually be refitted and will offer two classes. Cabin crew are already wearing the CityJet uniform.
Last month the airline also signed a contract with Blue Island to provide services out of the Channel Islands.
