Plane Stupid protest

London City Airport was the scene of an early morning protest yesterday, as 5 members of climate change direct action group Plane Stupid broke though security fencing and attached themselves the wheels of a private jet.
A spokesman for the group said the activists donned pin-stripe suits and bowler hats before attaching themselves to the jet to protest at the ‘selfishness of private jet use’. The climate change campaigners, 4 men and 1 woman, were arrested for aggravated trespass and criminal damage.
Nancy Birch, spokesman for Plane Stupid, said ‘small jets emit between 5 and 10 times more carbon per passenger than commercial flights.’ The airport remained open throughout the protest, which caused limited disruption to passengers.
