London City Airport revamp to open next month
12.04.08
London City Airport is introducing self-service check-in kiosks and a range of other enhancements as part of a revamp designed to 'improve the customer experience'. Work due to be completed next month will see 12 common use self-service (CUSS) kiosks available for passengers to check themselves in for flights.
In addition the departure lounge is being reconfigured to add 250 seats, the airports retail offering will be improved with the addition of WH Smith and Nuance, and a new lounge featuring high-speed internet access and live sports screens will open. Complimentary wireless internet access will be available for all passengers throughout the airport, and a new bar is due to open at the end of next month.
The enhancements are timed to coincide with the opening of new parking stands at the airport to handle up to 4 additional aircraft, supplementing 14 existing stands. Further gate lounges will also be added, with access directly from the departure lounge.
The £30m project, the largest since the airport opened 21 years ago, was started last summer to help with increased numbers of flights, including new services by BA, Air France Cityjet, Lufthansa, SAS and Austrian Airlines.
