CityJet boost flight frequencies
13.01.10
CityJet will boost capacity on its best-performing routes from London City Airport following a surge in bookings in the last quarter of 2009. The Dublin based Air France KLM subsidiary will increase frequencies to Amsterdam, Dublin, Edinburgh and Paris taking its daily flight tally from the Docklands hub to 60 for the remainder of the winter season.
CityJet carried 2 million passengers last year, with 250,000 flying on its strongest route - London City to Amsterdam - 149,500 passengers traveling to Dublin, 109,000 to Rotterdam and 72,000 to Antwerp. Demand for flights to Antwerp and Luxemburg increased by 10% in December, while Edinburgh and Dundee also saw a last-minute surge, boosting overall passenger figures on Scottish routes by 23% compared to the previous year.
CityJet chief executive Geoffrey O’Byrne White said: ‘This is a remarkable turnaround considering figures from the first 9 months of 2009 when the full force of the economic downturn hit business travel. CityJet is to go from strength to strength in 2010 following the successful launch of our Milan Linate route, which is already showing a strong uptake.'
