Runway closed by BA plane 'hard landing'

A British Airways passenger plane carrying 72 people crash-landed at London City Airport this evening after part of its landing gear failed. One passenger was taken to a hospital with a minor injury, sustained on leaving the plane via an emergency slide.
The Avro RJ100 plane was operating BA Flight 8456 from Amsterdam. The airline said the plane's nose wheel failed on landing and that emergency slides were deployed to evacuate the passengers as a precaution.
Firefighters said the plane, which crashed onto the runway at around 19:45, was carrying 67 passengers and 5 crew. London ambulance officials said four people were treated for minor injuries, with one taken to hospital.
London City Airport's single runway was closed after the incident and is not expected to open until tomorrow. A number of flights have been diverted to other London airports.
