Passengers up 9% at VLM

VLM Airlines, the Belgian airline with its main base at London City Airport that recently agreed to be bought by Air France, saw passenger carryings rise by 9% to 745,781 in 2007.
The airline's fastest growing route was between London City Airport and Isle of Man, which saw an increase of 83% compared to 2006. On flights between London City and Amsterdam passenger numbers were up by 44% to a total of 151,165. (From next month, the airline adds an additional return flight on this route, bringing the total number of flights to 11 each weekday.)
VLM carried almost 110,000 passengers on its London City - Manchester service, the third largest on its network with 7 return flights each weekday, and more than 300,000 passengers on its services between London City and Holland. (The airline offers flights from London City to Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Groningen in addition to a Manchester - Rotterdam link.)
With more than 88,000 passengers in 2007, the London City - Antwerp route increased by 6%. Its Manchester - Antwerp service, which was launched at the end of 2006, carried nearly 26,000 passengers. Its service between London City and Luxembourg saw 10% growth to 60,847 passengers.
