BA add new plane type to London City based fleet
15.03.10
British Airways subsidiary BA CityFlyer has become the first carrier to operate both the Embraer 170 and 190SR at London City Airport. The Embraer 190SR is the latest addition to the airline's fleet and will be used to operate its service to Edinburgh.
Although Baboo operates the 190SR on scheduled connections into London City, its use depends on passenger volumes. So BA is the initial airline to operate a dedicated scheduled service from London City using the Embraer 190, which only recently received CAA certification to make the steep approach landing needed for the Docklands hub.
BA CityFlyer started replacing its fleet of nine Avro RJ100 and twoRJ85 planes last September when it took delivery of its first 76-seat Embraer 170. It now has 6 of these in scheduled operation and has ordered five Embraer 190s. All of the Embraers will be delivered by early into the third quarter of the year, with the final Avro scheduled to depart the fleet by the end of June.
