Private jet passengers up 44% (or down 22%)
16.06.09
London City Airport saw a 44% jump in passengers travelling by private jet in May compared to the previous month. The largest monthly rise in nearly half a decade, it has been seen by some to indicate Canary Wharf is showing signs of returning to health. However, passengers were still down 22% compared to last year, according to the same figures.
A spokesman for the airport said: 'The improvement [compared to April] was largely due to passengers in the financial services sector starting to travel again. About 85% of the passengers travelling by private jet through the airport work in financial services.'
Perhaps direct action group Plane Stupid knew these figures when they staged their private jet protest at the airport last week.
