Holidaymakers pay £540 - for 2 weeks parking
16.08.09
'Rip-off airports' are 'stinging holidaymakers' for up to £540 to park their car there while they fly off on a 2 week break, the News of the World reports. The charges mean holidaymakers could end up paying more for parking than the cost of their holiday.
London City Airport is the most pricey in the UK, with a fortnight in its long-stay car park a crippling £540. But a two-week stay at Heathrow cost £315. Luton and Southampton airports come in joint third at £142.50 for a fortnight's parking, while Gatwick is a hefty £135. Cheapest is Humberside - where a fortnight's parking is £80.50 - while Prestwick and Durham Tees Valley both charge £85.
Short stay car parks also vary - from £45.20 a day at Heathrow to £12.20 at Aberdeen airport. Travellers should book online in advance or use off-site car parks, which can slash charges by 60%.
