BA New York flights to clear US immigration at Shannon
17.11.08
British Airways has announced that passengers on its all business class flights travelling to New York from London City Airport will be able to clear customs and immigration at Shannon Airport in Ireland prior to arriving in the US.
The westbound flights will stop in Shannon in order to re-fuel as the runway length at London City means that the planes would not be able to take off fully laden with passengers, luggage and fuel. Passengers will then bypass normal arrivals checks when they land at New York's JFK, being treated as domestic passengers.
The twice-daily Business Class service between London City and New York will be launched by BA in autumn next year. Eastbound flights (from JFK to London) will be non-stop.
