CityJet says Shannon route 'promising'
21.12.07
CityJet, the Dublin based Air France subsidiary, is moving closer to launching flights between Shannon and London City Airport. Research by the airline showed the route was 'quite promising.' It comes just weeks before Aer Lingus scrap their flights between Shannon and Heathrow.
According the the research, just a third of the 330,000 annual Shannon - Heathrow passengers last year were connecting to other flights, with the remaining 220,000 listing London as their end destination. This would mean a route to London City, with limited onward flight connectivity, would not be an problem for most passengers.
CityJet has already announced flights between Shannon and Paris Charles de Gaulle, in a move designed to secure the West of Ireland's international air route connectivity once Aer Lingus ends its London flights in mid January.
Cityjet CEO Geoff White said: 'We've done an exercise in relation to Shannon and London City Airport and the figures are quite promising in relation to that. The difficulty is that there aren't that many slots available at London City, and you'd need a minimum of 3 flights a day.'
