US rapper detained at airport

US rapper Busta Rhymes was held by immigration officials at London City Airport for almost 12 hours yesterday before a High Court judge ordered his release. Officials at the airport, citing ‘unresolved convictions in the US,’ detained the rapper after he arrived from Amsterdam to perform at a charity concert at the Royal Albert Hall today.
Immigration officials tried to put Rhymes, 36, on a flight back to Amsterdam, but his lawyer obtained an injunction and applied for a judicial review of the decision not to grant him admission. A spokeswoman for concert organisers RockCorps said: ‘A High Court judge ordered his release. He has been allowed entry into the UK.’ She said his appearance at the event would depend on the outcome of a judicial review today.
The rapper, whose real name is Trevor George Smith Jr, was sentenced to 3 years' probation this year for beating a fan who spat on his car in August 2006 and assaulting his driver last December. However, he had the necessary work permit and has been in the country twice already this year.
RockCorps is a volunteer project that rewards youngsters with free concert tickets in return for doing four hours of charity work.
