BA order two A319’s for New York service
28.05.08
Airbus has announced that British Airways has signed a firm contract to buy two A318 aircraft. It will use the planes to launch all business class services between London City Airport and New York next year.
The A318 is the largest aircraft certified for the unusually steep approach procedures at the Docklands airport. BA’s order for the smallest member of the A320 family boosts the number of customers for the plane to 13.
Willie Walsh, BA’s chief executive, said that the A318 is perfect for the trail-blazing all business flights to New York. He said: ‘It is large enough for us to provide the number of business class seats required to make this a viable operation.'
